Further OS talk

As I mentioned in a previous post Windows 7 has been chugging along and the RC will be made available to the general public sometime tomorrow. I will downloading and installing it on a VM session (I use parallels on my Macbook). So far the buzz has been more positive for Windows 7 than it was for Vista, that’s not to say that it’s all positive.

There are mixed reviews on XP mode which allows applications that natively ran on XP to run in Windows 7. This is accomplished by running the application in an XP virtual environment, which I think is a great way of handling the need to run native XP applications while still trying to solve the permissions issues Vista had taken a swing at. On the down side you can only utilize XP mode functionality if your hardware supports hardware virtualization.

Further comments will follow once I have a chance to actually try Windows 7 for myself and can rely less on what others are saying (realizing that the big picture is still important).

My upgrade to Leopard has been a pleasurable one and I continue to shout praises for Mac OS. The one feature I have yet to try, and am really looking forward to, is the time machine feature. In order to try this feature I need to purchase another external hard drive that can be used for maintaining the backups associated with the feature. One of the requirements for the external hard drive I chose is that it utilizes (or at least has the option of utilizing) firewire for connectivity in order to minimize the time needed to transfer data. All I really need to do is take a little time to research what will fit my needs and make the actual purchase…hopefully in the next couple of weeks I will have one.

As for my weekend I did not go geocaching as the weather turned out to be soggy both days (Saturday more so than Sunday which is the opposite of the forecast given). I did work a bit on the blog design though the only change I really adopted so far was changing the template. I am looking at further changes though they would require a bit more work so I will consider them on going projects. I chose the current template as a way of making the theme quieter and therefore giving precedence to the actual content.

That’s all for this post, additional post coming this week.
